Default line straightening

Hi Peeps, i recently got my new Grxi rod and reel set up which came with free line ect and have now been out a few times, im finding that when the line goes out on the water it straight away coils up, so even when im doing a slow retrieve it almost acts like a spring so im a bit worried that i might lose a few takes. My question is can i stretch the line, if so do i do a big length at a time with someone at the other end or maybe a couple foot at a time.also how hard can i pull??? thanks for any tips and tricks.Ian

Well it could be the line itself thats the problem , some lines aint great and have memory, first off , you can try this at home , get a bowl of warm water "not hot" and put yer line in that for a few mins, then wipe it dry and give it a stretch by holding a section between yer hands about chest width apart, dont go mad just a slow stretch you will feel the line give alittle, do this all down yer line, and leave i large coils on the floor for a while.Second thing i would do is to reel the line back on to the reel afew times use yer fingers to align it onto the reel or if youve got enough space get the whole line out in a straight line and do it.It will either work or not depending on the line, but you can also give yer line a stretch at the waterside or just before you go fishing, but push comes to shove you might have to get another line, give it ago and see

Was it a GRXi line?

All new lines with have a degree of memory to begin with and should eventually fish out, however the GRXi tends retain memory for quite a while.

I would suggest first ensuring you have no twist in the line before giving it a stretch, otherwise you will stretch a kink into the line and that will be it, you will never get it out.

Get hold of a coarse/sea fishing barrell swivel and some string. Tie the string around a tree or a post and attach the swivel. Attach another short piece of string to the swivel and attach the tag end to your fly line loop.

Walk backwards extending the full line out, lift and give it a slow firm pull, don't yank it.

That should take out any twist.

Using a damp cloth, walk back up the line, giving it a stretch every two or three foot until you reach the tip.

Walk back to your rod and line and wind back onto the reel whilst walking towards the tree or post.

Tightlines!

The Pirate.
