Default Sharpe's Gordon. which line ?

Hi guys, i'm looking for advice. I am using a Sharpe's of Aberdeen Gordon 2 which
is 9'6 and rated for a 7 line. I went out and bought a Hardy 7 floating line but the problem i'm having is i keep thinking the line is too light. Anyone out there using an 8. Or indeed any other idea's would be welcome.

I used the same line on the same rod and found it hard work. (Possibly just my cr@p casting)

I then tried a PP #8 and it was much better imho.

(I also have a 9' #6 Gordon and find it works much better with #7 lines (or a Cortland #6.5 which also works well))

Know the rod, sounds like you need a #7 with longer head, or#8 with shorter head, the seven if you like to aerialise a bit more line prior to shooting, and the eight if you only like a short amount out before shooting!
hope this makes sense!

I've had the 10' #7 Gordon II for a few months now, here's what I have found with lines on it.

6th sense sinkers from slow glass to DI7 are good in the 6/7 rating. Have a full set of 7/8's which are too heavy for it.

Floaters, the 7wt Snowbee XS flies, really good, but I have durability issues with this line and am looking for a replacement. Also tried my 8wt Worcestershire and Rio gold. Both just a bit too heavy.

My midge tips are 8wt Rio Aqualux midge tip (far too heavy) and Cortland 444 15' ghost tip (even worse). Need to get some 7wt Midge tips for this rod, or even 6's as the 2 listed seem to be heavy 8's.

I do find this rod gives much more feedback than any other I have owned. Overlining it gives a heavy feel. It all feels a bit 'dead' if you know what I mean, no zing in the cast.

Hope this helps.

Nick

Pretty good summary nick, but think six weight would have to be d/t to get enough line out to make it work.

I only meant a 6 for the midge tips Bert as the 2 I have in 8wt above both seem very heavy 8's, so a heavy 6 should be good I think. Let you know in due course !!
