Default Conflicting advice

Iv been out of fly fishing for a long while, I`m back now and asking a lot of questions to fellow anglers and fishery managers about methods , tactics etc..

I had to laugh yesterday the guy catching all the trout had a big lure on using 8lb mono leader with a fast retrieve, the fishery manager said dont go above 5lb breaking strain and flouro leaders are a MUST, slow retrieve and natural flies

Unfortunately, or perhaps fortunately, we have no direct line to what's going on in a fishes head (probably not much).

Thing is, if fish are feeding and it looks like an easy meal and acts like an easy meal, they'll take it - despite what the fishery manager might like to think they should be doing.

That depends on what your fishing. I use Snowbee Flouro-tec 10lb for stillwater, Because I want to practice Catch and release and feel that I can bully the fish a lot quicker to the net. Hence less stress on the fish and more confidence in my leader.

I hope that answers your question.

Im just pointing out that everyone has their own methods, ideas, formulas, call it what you want and use what works for them, look at the flouro thread for example, some rate it, some dont.

The fishery manager I spoke to said flouro is invisible in water, this simply isnt true and if I can see it then the fish can, its obvious that you have to come to your own conclusions

Dead true. Two of my pals were out in a boat on our club water yesterday. One caught 9 on dries and the other caught 6 on Dawsons olives with an intermediate line.
Those fish are so contrary....
