Default furled leader 2

last week i posted saying i was going to make my own furled leaders, well i have and i am pleased with them and hope to give them a flick this evening.the only problem i have with making them is the two tail ends as i am twisting get in a mess. i have thrown the ends over the gate which is about 7ft high while i furl and it does help keeping them turning away from each other.i wondered if anybody else has had this problem and did you find a way around it. also do the loops hold without unfurling or do they need glue or varnish to hold them.

I take it you are talking about Singaporean leaders. If you are having trouble, you could try winding each end on to 2 old spools and pull out about 3 or 4 feet at a time.

not sure what leader it is i am new to it, i was copying the one i saw on youtube. i start with about 22ft its doubled leaving ten and a half feet at each tail. the lad on youtube doesnt seem to have the problem i have but i must say the more i make the easier it gets. not sure the spool method would work, it seems the tails have to turn to allow the furl or else it springs back on its self. if you know what i mean.

Yes! You are making Singaporean leaders. The sort people make in the forum are more complex. When I mentioned spools I meant just something to take up the slack on each side but off the ground so that they can spin.As you get close to the spools just release a few more feet on each side. You could also just roll up both sides and secure them with a clothes peg.

One website recommends that you use two lines of mugs, or cups, and put the two loose ends through the handles, these then allow the lines to "un-twist" themselves.

I haven't tried it yet but it might work. The line I'm twisting (furling) together I dangle out of a bedroom window - that allows it to un-twist itself.

MOT.
