Default Another boating question

Ok this is the situation.

On Grafham yesterday and I'm drifting with several other boats into an area when I suspect the fish may be. The boat in front of me catches 2 fish in quick succession then promptly drops anchor.

I'm left with a shortened drift and have to pull out early (ooh err Mrs) as do all the other boats as we re-align to start again. Is this considered bad form? Certainly seemed that way from my perspective.

Also I tried to get a drift into another area only to fing it solid with boats anchored all over the place. They'd effectively turned Savages Creek into a marina.

Unfortunatly that is just how it happens when there are lots of people ancored in one area like that as they have just as much right to be there as you. But if someone drops ancore just infront of you that is just not good.

I appreciate the frustration but there is no rule to say you have to drift or that drifting boats take precedence.

Dropping anchor when you're in a 'line' of drifting boats would tend to impact upon your popularity at the boat dock at the end of the day!

There may be no rule to say that you have to drift, but there is a rule to say that you must not anchor in another boat's drift.

In this case, if the front boat of a line of 3 drifting boats drops anchor, they are anchoring in another boat's drift and this is against the rules.

I was also on Grafham yesterday and it was a total joke in Savages. I had to call out to stop one boat from dropping the anchor who had just motored into the creek and stopped right in front of us!

It's not a problem when the fish have spread out across the reservoir, but when they are concentrated in particular areas for someone to anchor over them just says to me "F**k you. These are my fish and no one else is allowed to have a go at them". They then proceed to bank fish off a boat for the rest of day. Good boat skills!

We had to move away from Savages as it was impossible to get any kind of sensible drift and fortunately moved to another area that had a number of large fish feeding on the surface. We managed to catch fish to over 5lb and ended up having a great day.

Previously I would have shared this location for the good of all, but as of now I will give no further information about Grafham on this forum as I'll just find a clump of anchored boats full of numpties every time I venture out.

And as for those guys who anchor all day over fish, chuck a bung on and catch loads of fish. Please don't pretend to yourselves that you are good boat anglers. You're just selfish bank anglers who just happen to be bank fishing off a boat.

Glad I'm not the only one and totally agree. I had a bit of a mare, didn't find any fish, snapped a fly line and didn't have a replacement so ended up going home early. Actually I'm having a bit of a bad season on Grafham so far when previously I've done OK.

Still Scotland next week.

Your nerve has been truely touched eh Graham? and I agree... Its as bad as certain anglers with oars strapped either side (because ruddering aint allowed) trying to hammer the big fish in the same area eh? No names mentioned...
