Default Itchen day fishing

Can anyone help with any day fishing on the Itchen, I am down that way for 10 days from next Tuesday and would love to fish a southern chalk stream (can't afford the Test I'm afraid) any help well appreciated.

Have a look at this site, it ain;t going to be cheap though!! It's much better value fishing them for grayling after the trout season finishes. Fishing Breaks - chalkstream fly-fishing, Fly Fishing School, Fishing School, Fly fishing tuition, Fly Fishing

The lower itchen fishery offers slightly cheaper fishing

Lower Itchen Fishery for fly fishing one of the finest chalk stream rivers

Also, The Rod Box near Winchester offer day lets on the Itchen

Personally I'd go for the Itchen before the Test if you want a 'proper' chalkstream experience, most of the Test is much bigger, and cloudier, than people imagine, although the upper Test around Longparish/Whitchurch is really good. Good luck!

I agree with Darren comments ... i prefer the itchen by a long way..

that having been said, Timsbury fishing on the Test charge £75 per day not the best beat you will fish but... you get what you pay for....

You do not have to pay a sum equivalent to the national debt of Argentina for some good chalk stream fishing. Do one or both of going a bit further afield - there are chalk streams in Dorset and Wiltshire as well - or get on the grapevine. The beats Richard Slocock offers on a day ticket basis on the Frome and particularly the Piddle are excellent, and maximum £75/day....

Then again I am biased, having caught and released a 3lb 12oz wild brown in the River Piddle just last Friday.

Thanks everyone, quite some stuff to go at.
If anyone fancies doubling up for 1/2 or full day and showing me round, I'm down that way Fri 18,Sat 19,Sun 20,Mon 21 or Tues 22, just let me know, especially if you know the water.
JohnH great fish..
