52-pound fish found dead at 40 years old - UPI.com

YATELEY, England, June 7 (UPI) -- British fishing enthusiasts are mourning the death of a 52-pound leather carp that was caught and set free an estimated 1,000 times during its lifetime.

The fish, dubbed Heather the Leather by the angling community, was found dead by workers at the Yateley, England, pond and is believed to have died of old age at an estimated 40 years, The Sun reported Monday.

I've never fished for Carp but that is some size and aged fish. I used to live in Yateley. There are quite a few ponds/gravel pits in and around there which makes it a bit of a coarse fishing mecca, so not sure which one this fish was in.

Cracking fish, always terrible to see big fish die. Especially a 50 which has brought so many anglers their catch of a lifetime.

Walker called his record "Ravioli", the people at the London Zoo called it "Clarissa".

Sad in some way I guess.
I notice that the fish was valued at 30k.
How would this figure have been calculated.
Would love to know that, that's a lot of cash for a fish.

Was wondering that myself! £30k would get you a very very good Koi. It might be worth a grand or so to a club water. I wonder if there's an insurance claim in the way

Tend to agree Bruce. OK, its sad, this fish was a legend in carp circles, but they all die at some point, carp just happen to live longer than a lot of other fish. No doubt its like losing an old friend for some of its regular captors but a headstone FFS! Does anyone else find it a bit ironic that it was so famous for being caught so many times? Not the quickest of learners..... Or maybe she just had a chronic boilie habit

and maybe the chronic boile/halibut pellet feeds were the death of it as its a known fact halibut pellets create excessive fatty tissue
