I think there use to be an opinion that taddies tasted very bitter and trout didn't care for them but I've seen trout crashing into them I've also seen large amount of tadpoles disappear in a very short period!

I'VE heard similar. they'll attack them, but don't like the taste. I know the fishing at Lechlade goes off for a few weeks when the taddies are about, and the trout can often be seen in the margins near the taddies Ive spooned a few and never found much in the way of tadpoles in them but i suppose it adds up that they do take them when we catch a lot of fish on tadpole patterns...?

Of course, you can fish a 'tadpole' imitation any time of the year and take fish. It is a lure at the end of the day, one that coincidentally also vaguely looks like a taddy, because you catch on it, doesn't necessarily mean fish are on tadpoles.
