Default Father's Day Present

My Dad has dropped a few hints that he would like to have some fly fishing lessons as a Father's Day present. He loves eating fish, so I would be looking for some lessons where he also has a good chance of catching something he can take home.

We live in Gloucester. Any recommendations ?

Frank Williams will sort the fishing lessons - you may need to go to a supermarket for the eating bit.

I would contact Frank.
His web site is Frank Williams Fly Fishing Instruction on the Monnow, Usk and Wye
I would also suggest your father have the lesson at Woolaston court.
Woolaston Court Trout Lakes | Woolaston Court Trout Lakes
They have a small begginers pool catch & kill.Full of fish.Last year the prices were £5 to fish the pool then £2.50 per fish caught.

Enjoy yourselves

Sean

Thanks for the replies.

Was looking at the Bushyleaze web site (after carrying out a search on here which I should have done in the first instance). Quite a good deal with tution, rod hire (which you can keep) and fishing afterwards to try and catch. Has anybody any experience of this package ?

Yes, well sort of.
My first flyfishing/flycasting lesson was at Busheyleaze.
The guy that teaches is Howard, very nice bloke. Very able fisherman too.
No doubt in recommending him at all.
I have no experience of the tackle you can rent/buy.

However from a catching point of view, please don't think I'm being rude here, your father may struggle. The fish can be just out of range of beginners casting abilities. You will find that Howard generally fishes buzzers with an indicator about 60-70 feet out. Where alot of the fish will be( not allways but often). Having said that there's allways a chance the fish may be closer. But in all honesty by the time your father has had his lesson a few anglers would have waded in pushing the fish out to the middle.

If I can help any further drop me a pm.

Regards Sean

Just an update. Took my Dad to Woolaston yesterday afternoon as a Father's Day present. Instruction was provided by Frank Williams.

Frank provided excellent tuition and would definately recommend.

Thought Woolaston was a really nice setting and well run. Would also recommend.

My Dad took home four fish and lost three others whilst trying to land. I took home three fish and lost three as well.

There's a good story for a Monday morning ... that's what the FFF is all about, making contacts, education, fun and a good days family fishing ... brilliant.

Pleased it went well .
