Default Fly Line Nightmare

Please help:

I am using a Snowbee XS two tone fly line. I have used it about 15 times and I just cannot for the life of me get rid of the kinks/s bends, call them what you like.

I've tried stretching the line, warm water in a bowl.....

After I have cast the line, no matter what the water conditions are, once the tension is out of the line, it naturally falls into a snake like pattern.

Can anybody help me to sort this out (it's driving me round the bend), or are some lines faulty in this respect?

Thanks,

Matt

if you stretched it without getting all the twists kinks out first then they will never come out ... try attatching one end to a large swivel like for sea fishing and attatch that to some cord and fasten it around a post/tree etc then run the line out and pull on the line ,the swivel will take the twists out then give it a good stretch!!!!!!!!!!

I have used this line for years, and have never had this problem, may be you have got the line from a bad batch, email snowbee ask them about your problem.

Hi Alan,

Thanks for that.

The line casts beautifully but just will not sit straight on the water.

Hi Mat I know what you mean have just returned two sharkskin lines for the same reason great lines to cast but didn't like the memory, thought sharkskins are supposed to be memory free but those were not!!
Have now got a Rio Gold will be trying it out tomrrow.

I have the Rio gold, it's practically memory free. I found that it had some memory when I took it out of the box but after a few casts this memory was gone.

If you overstretch it you can actually make it worse, so watch out for that. An alternative is find a big playing field, pay out all the line and walk around towing it behind you for a while which will get rid of any twists in the line due to the way it might have been spooled. Unfortunately though if you have a pig of a line that for whatever reason has aquired a persistent memory like an elephant you're probably stuck with it In contrast a couple of cheapo lines I've found with virtually no memory are Shakey Gliders and Lureflash Viper, so price is no guarantee!

did you stick a pencil through the spool and unwind it without putting a twist onto the reel with each turn or coil it off the spool sideways?

sideways not good.

jeffr just beat me to it, as per.
