Guess what I saw yesterday
My son and I were river fishing yesterday. The fly hatch was unbelievable.
Mayflies, sedges and olives of all sizes from 11.00hrs through to 14.00hrs.
We were catching and returning wild brown trout using all methods at will. Then I saw it very clearly. A Kingfisher flew at a million miles per hour downstream past us.
About 30yds below us it stopped landed on a branch, looked straight at us and then headed further downstream.
I went downstream and spotted the nest up in a high bank. I then left very quickly.
We were really chuffed because we have fished this stretch of river for years, we have previously seen only a blue flash before and we have only ever met one fellow angler in all that time and he had told us about the breeding kingfishers but had not revealed the location of the nest.
The secret is safe. What a days fishing and what a sight to behold, even my son was gobsmacked.
Now that is fishing!!!!!
