Default Has anyone ever got "caught"

I have a recurring nightmare ... I'm on a boat at Grafham, changing my top dropper and the rest of my team are in the water. All of a sudden, the line tightens and the dropper goes deep into my finger .... basically a trout has taken one of the flies left in the water and in the process has "caught" me!

My nightmare continues as I'm eventually hauled overboard due to the shock of the situation and I end up having to chew through the line (whilst being pulled around Grafham like the lass in the opening scene of Jaws) in order to save myself.

Questions:

1. Is this the real life ... is this just fantasy? (Bohemian Rhapsody) Has anyone ever experienced the same nightmare/disturbing thought?

2. Are there any true stories out there of this kind of thing actually happening ... i.e. getting snagged by a taking fish,,,not the overboard bit

Fair enough, Bruce!

Must be just me ... but reckon this must have happened to someone?

It happened to me on a small fishery some years ago, although I wasn't boat fishing. I hooked two trout at once, both 2 pounders. After playing the trout I reached out and unhooked the fish on the dropper. As I did so the trout on the point plunged away, causing the size 10 B175 to enter my thumb.

Thank goodness I had squeezed off the barb, the hook came out easily.

The nearest thing to being attached to a fish that I know of is when a mate who caught a small Pike, as he tried to take the hooks out the Pike went ballistic and he managed to get the flying treble in the cheek of his face of all places, there was only one thing for it...pull quick and hard with the forceps, plenty of claret about as we freed him

Thanks for the stories ... at least I know I'm not deluded to think that this is a realistic possibility

Any more tales of 'getting caught' out there?

Never had the dream only the reality!! Painful as well with a 3 1/2lb Rainbow taking off at high speed!!

Similar to the pike tale above, a friend did a similar trick but attached himself to the pike with his thumb on the same treble. It took a trip to the local health centre to remove the hook and lure from his thumb after I'd unhooked the pike, helped him up the steep sided drain, carried all his tackle back to my car as well as my own after packing both lots away. The land we were on was made up of heavy clinging mud so every step you took made your boots heavier.

The best bit was when the Doctor told him "Now you know how the fish feels with a hook stuck in it"

Had a hook in my thumb three times while changing a fly on the top dropper, once by a trout, once by a swift and once by a bat. Had to wrap the bat in a hand towel to subdue it, kept on trying to nip me! Lesson learnt, never keep your rod vertical while changing flies in the evening!
