Default dropper tangling around the line

having been fishing for years without this problem, this has sneaked into my cast and im not to sure why. the dropper tends to wrap itself around the leader. it is not knotting but whilst fishing the top of the water it is quite noticeable and is making an awful ripple which i fear is spooking the fish.it is almost as if i have held the line and been spinning the line around to form a twist.

i only fish the two flies.

reason?

Perhaps your casting style has changed and you're introducing a twist on the back stroke? Just a thought.

Get this myself but started to use longer droppers recently so I can change my fly choice more though?

any idea what change has occurred to make this happen then? i cant say ive noticed a difference in my casting. i'm going to look for some casting lessons to tidy up any loose ends shortly anyway.

Hends make rollers that fit on your line and are designed to reduce line twist:

I haven't tried them myself but I am tempted as the same thing happens with me. In reality I think line twist is unavoidable and something that happens with everyone. N

what type of knot are you using? i find that if i tie my knots so the dropper line is facing outwards and slightly upwards, it keeps the droppers away from the leader. when i started using droppers i used to get the winding droppers problem all the time, until a wise old angler shown me how to tie a dropper knot properly.

nowadays, i tend to use 1mm leader rings with a drop of glue to hold the dropper out. i also use the small mustad hook snaps to attach flies. this way you can change three flies in less than a minute, and as far as i can tell, not even the wild brownies get put off by them.
