May Fly hatch and new anchors at Eyebrooke
I wonder what the May Fly hatch is like around the country this year.
I live within 100 yards of the River Rib, Hertfordshire, and the hatch, Mayfly Danica, is more prolific this year than I have ever seen in the last 20 years.
I have some chickens on the grass near the river and these, along with a brood of pheasant chicks, spend most of the day chasing around the garden jumping into the air to feast on the hapless flies. My wifes one front legged cat is also enjoying great sport trying to bat them to the ground During the evening my car roof is constantly an aiming point for the egg laying females and last night I lost count at around fifty flying up and down above the car roof.
My friend and I could have done with some of these falling on to the water on Monday 24th May at Eyebrooke reservoir. Not a very fish-full day in the bright sun and heat. Oh, and what about the new ships anchors on some of the boats here. They will certainty stop the boats moving in even the strongest wind. However dont drop them in the bottom of the boat as I swear they will go right through the bottom and mind you dont get a double hernia getting out of the mud and back into the boat.
Sorry, you smashing Eyebrooke staff, not so much of a complaint as an observation.
