Default French Nymphing

I looked at the Hends video on French nymphing and am keen to have a go at it. Just wondering whether you actually need a fly line on the reel or could just connect the leader direct to backing. Advice appreciated

No you don't need to attach a flyline, unless it is a competition or part of the rules on the river.

Dont know whether phillip has cleared everything up with you but i always keep my line on the reel just so i have a good connection and if a fish takes your entire leader its easier to play a fish from the flyline than the backing. Fly lin eadds more weight though and how many fish you gonna get that takes your entire frnech leader anyway. I have the hends camou leader and it seem to be quite good. Its a deadly technique for competiton fishing mate, i need to try it more. Fish small nymphs like 16s 18s and 20s with beads and your laughing mate.
