Default Burn near Carbeth

Hi all,

Not been on for a while but now uni has finished for the year... fishing is all that I shall be doing

Have been fishing Carbeth a bit lately and have noticed a very nice burn that you have to cross over a bridge just before Carbeth Inn... Was wondering more about the access to these wee burns around Scotland. Do the Farmers who own the land have the fishing rights? or are they open game as far as the right to access law in Scotland goes?

Any info would be appreciated.

The burn you cross over coming in to Carbeth is the Allander which is a tributary of the Kelvin so I guess you would need a Kelvin permit to fish it. I fished it regularly as a boy from Carbeth to Milngavie and it had plenty of small trout in it. Caught my first ever fish on the fly in the middle of Milngavie. This was before salmon and seatrout returned and no permit was required.

Thanks for that... was planning getting a permit for the Kelvin next month, checked their website and it they do cover the Allander.

Cheers, for the info though.

Hiya - yes it is the Allander and it is covered by the Kelvin permit.

I used to fish it a few years ago and it was pretty good - now because of the returning Salmon it is stuffed full of parr - a good sign for the Salmon but a bad sign for the trout. Because of the amount of parr attacking your flies catching the trout that are left is very difficult.
