Default fly fishing, why not take a mate!

Hi there,
apart from breathing my favorite thing to do is Fly Fish, (which does'nt please my Mrs too much), wether it be a small still water, resivour or river. I really want to ensure that the sport of fishing does not have the same fate as fox hunting! (wether you are against it or not it was one of our country's oldest past time). Even though there are a lot of fishermen/fisherwomen out there I believe the best way to ensure the future of fly fishing and all types of fishing is to get more people fishing especially children, and doing it correctly! So i propose that every Fisherman/Fisherwoman out there take a friend or a relative who has never been before or who has not been for many years fishing to there favorite fishery or beat of a river. I have taken a few people this year and we have had some fantastic days! They have enjoyed a good days fishing catching a few fish, and one of my friends has now bought his first fly rod, and apart from the fishing I enjoy parting with my 'limited' wisdom about all things fishy. I hope on them long, beautiful summer days fishing you will share the fun and take someone!!
Thanks for reading and Tight Lines everyone.
p.s If you think it is a good idea please post a reply or even if you dont i would still like to hear your views. Thanks

sometimes i sneak off when hes at school and he goes mad!i find it more enjoyable when hes there.Hes been coming shooting with me since he was four.Obviosly hes has not contact with any firearms. He just likes been out and about with me.

James,
Excellent idea and one which I have tried to follow for the last few years. Living in the south now my fishing opportunties are a bit limited compared to home. However I have in the last year introduced two of my mates who are avid carp anglers to the fly and intoduced another two who are completley new to fishing.

I did try to introduce the wife to it, but noy joy, maybe not a bad thing

So agree, something that needs to be encouraged.

Me and the brother-in-law took a guy fishing last year. First time flyfishing but he was really into coarse fishing when he was a whipper snapper.

Anyway, now he tries to join us every weekend he can make it!

Even our tackle tartious disease is slowly but surley infecting him...

Matt.

I take my 10 year old daughter, I have bought her a rod/reel and she loves it. She has caught rainbows, perch, even pike and is always asking me when we are going again.

In the past couple of years I've had the pleasure of introducing three children and five adults, all of them non-fishing, to the world of fly fishing! I've probably taken along another ten to fifteen persons but these eight are the ones who now have rod and reels and fish on a regular basis. I think I get a bigger kick out seeing the look on someone's face when they hook and catch their first fish than out of anything else in fishing!

I took a friends 13 yr old son fly fishing last Sunday and he caught 2. With in 1 hr of getting home he was on the phone asking for advice on which rod etc to buy and asking when can we go again. He gets his rod and reel on Saturday and I will supply him with flies and some other bits he will need.

hate to be a grouch but why on earth would a recruitment drive make any difference to any sport? other than generate revenue.

the old capatilist idea of more babies which grow up to spend more and pay more taxes just collapsed into its own very expensive vacuum.

The pleasure of sharing a wonderful experience? Or at least that's my reason for doing it.

Take care
