It's coming up to sedge time, G & H sedge, various body colours, black gnats in various sizes, daddies, beetles, olives - greenwells glory, grey duster. For emergers - Klink Hammers, again various colours. You could also try gnats in variou colours to represent the adult midge. You could also try hoppers in various colours. F flies, again in different colours and sizes. Others will no doubt come up with loads more.

You will get alot of different answers on this one............

For me personally the top 6 dries for the midland ressies are -

Hoppers (Orange, Red, Brown & black)
CDC Shuttlecocks (Hares ear with a pearl rid is my fav')
Shipmans (not the foam ones, they float too high in the water)
Bob's bits (Size 10 through to 16, Olive, red, Orange)
Suspender buzzers
Daddy longlegs

A good selection of these should see you right through the season.

Apart from having the right flies, the best advice with dry flies and emergers is regularly to degrease your leader to make sure that it sinks. Some people use fluorocarbon which sinks more readily, but I prefer coplymer.

I would endorse Chickenfish's selection of flies.

I'd have to add a Griffiths Gnat to that list. I wouldn't leave home without one.

In my experiance the conditions dictate how many flys you use at once. If it's flat calm & muggy, i usually use just one fly on a long tapered leader. Far superior presentation, turnover and far less tangles.

Light breeze from a drifting boat and i usually have 3 on.

If you're fishing from a boat, remember to keep your casts short..........

Just what i have found.....
