Default First fish on dry fly today

Ive been fly fishing for a couple of years but only today have i tried dry fly fishing.
I went to my local fishery late in the afternoon and caught a couple of rainbows i used griffiths gnat and a midge fly.
Over the moon saw the fish take the fly far more exciting than lure fishing with a sinking line
cant wait to go back!

I was always taught a very simple approach:

If you can - take 'em on dries.
If they're not rising frequently then try nymphs.
If nymphs don't do the trick, feel free to use lures.

Well done for going straight to the top of the list

The only thing that compares to a nice take on a dry is stalking individual trout with heavily weighted nymphs in clear waters & inducing the takes.

Dry fly fishing is very exciting and I do lots of it.

However I would not say that it is the most skilfull form of fly fishing. To me the most difficult is upstream nymphing on rivers or nymphing on still water where you are fishing in three dimensions, not two.

But the most exciting form of dry fly fishing is skating a sedge - especially the Walkers Sedge which was designed for this purpose.

Not good if you have a weak heart!
