Default sage rod help

i have got a sage rpl+ 7 weight, and a greys grx 8 weight, my problem is all my lines are 8 weight and my sage seems to struggle to load up and finding it hard to cast, the 8 weight lines, nps with my greys, was thinking about selling it or swapping it and getting another 8 weight rod, anyone any suggestions what kind of rod to get,
cheers

Sell the Greys and use the money to buy lines for the Sage which is a hugely superior rod.

Yopur sage should load an 8 with no trouble at all. if anything it'd OVERload it on a line size up. I don't want to sound patronising, but could it be that the action of the sage doesn't suit you? Seems more likely than the rod failing to load up? Personally, i'd get a pirate 7 weight floater and try the sage with that. I'd be prepared to bet it doesnt load any better. I dont know the RPL, but the GRX is fairly mid to tip action and loads through the rod. most sages in my experience are much more tip action and as such load at more of a 'sweet spot' - perhaps not the sort of action you like?

It is likely you are forcing it too much. You live not that far away from me. You are welcome to come over and try a few different lines on your Sage, and perhaps find one that suits the rod and your casting technique best.

Every weight and profile you would ever be likely to need.

A very generous offer david!
Kev, try this.
rpl+ and 8 weight line (i am assuming weight forward) keep a foot of forward belly inside tip ring, and cast at the sky 10 feet above horizon with a slow forward action and crisp stop at the horizon!
hope that makes sense!
line will shoot out , turnover, and land gently on line of cast.
How do i know?
is set up i use 9 times out of 10, river or loch!
regards
bert

Sage rods tend to be stiff for their line ratings. For example I often use a weight 7 forward taper on my Sage XP weight 6.

As Dave says, you just might be trying to force the cast too much. Remember casting a fly line uses equal energy on the forward cast as the back cast. That's why because of the way we are built, you should conciously put more zip into your back cast than the forward cast.

And keep your "elbow on the shelf" and everything "in plane". Two false casts at the most, and don't drop your arm on the forward cast or you will get a tailing loop.
