Default Fish go in......fish come out.....

....and there is not alot more to running a good trout fishery.......please discuss!!

I'm not that naive....but i think that the above statment is true for alot of fisheries......

The cynical trick when choosing where to go is likely to pick the one that's just started and being run by somebody fairly clueless .

In the fish get whacked in and out they come and everything's fine until it closes in short order because the poor soul hadn't got a clue about how to run a viable business and went bankrupt .

And then folks go round after a better financial operator has taken the place over and they always say - "It isn't as well stocked as it was when 'X' was running it !!"

I wouldn't touch running a fishery for a career with a bargepole - it is a singularly difficult job to make it pay - most of the successful guys at it are there for the lifestyle - they know they aren't going to get rich !

If you want to get more than you actually paid for out of a fishery it will only really be at the operator's expense !

Best wishes

Steve P

Most of the guys I have known who run the better fisheries, just love the livestyle. They like seeing the fruits of their labours and without such people, angling would be much poorer.

One of the greatest problems a fishery manager has to deal with are the anglers. Not the weather, poachers, cormorants or otters, but the anglers - his customers.

They whinge if it's difficult and whinge if it's easy. They snivel because the water's clear and gripe if there's an algal bloom. All the fish have got to be big ones or they'll create about that as well. They'll exceed the limit given half a chance and put fish back when there's no catch & release. They'll break every rule with no hesitation whatsoever and equally have no hesitation in clearing off to so & so's fishery down the road if they think they can get a better deal there.

Why anyone should want to make a career out of looking after an ungrateful, disloyal bunch like that is beyond me, but I'm very glad that some are thick-skinned enough to do it or there'd be precious little fishing to be had for most of us.

Fisheries give us the easy option, the easy fix. We pays our money we catch our fish & everyone is happy.
The anglers cause he caught some fish the owner because the angler caught & will be back.
I have often said that a fishery is only as good as it's stocking. Whether it is one pound or twenty pound I see no reason to change my thoughts on that one.
