Smile Drum Loch or Alderneuk??

Hi guys i'm new to this forum and have a quick question.

I'm going over to Dumfries on Saturday with some friends and was wondering which fishery is more preferred by the local anglers? I'm not trying to start a war between regulars of certain fisheries, just trying to find out general opinions of each fishery. I have just got back into fishing after a break of four years and will be bringing my nephew for his first fly fishing experience, along with three others who have fished before.

Any comments are greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance Bryan.

Default aulderneuk or drum

Hi Bryan
I have fished both venues. I prefer Auldernuk as it has a very relaxed homely atmosphere and the fish are first class.Nothing below 3lb up to 10lb and to bum myself up I currantly hold the record for the biggest trout at 10lb. The fishery is not big but when you go with freinds thats a good thing. William and Wilma will look after you all very well with as much tea and coffee as you can drink. The eggs are fresh layed in the morning and plenty bacon and rolls. You can also higher rods and reels if you want.
Aulderneuk holds the best fish for quality that I have caught anywhere. It can be hard at times but when you conect with one the wait is worth while.
Drum is a good bit larger and holds a good head of fish and buzzers work well.
For a good day out with freinds I woul recomend Aulderneuk

Thanks for the response and review Grayling. It certainly sounds good bacon rolls n all I'm not a million miles away so I will get to fish them both at some point. Do you know the phone number for Alderneuk?

Cheers Bryan.

Id ABSOLUTELY second what GRAYLINGS been saying and your correct about not wanting to start a fishery war BUT its night and day if you ask me. DRUMS nice too and ANDY and his wife are really nice but its all about choice and its a no brainer m8 for me. The fish are fantastic and the owners are fantasticer( is that a word ) tightlines and let us all know how you get on pal

Thanks again guys, just spoke to Wilma and cake will be baked. So it's a Saturday sortie to Alderneuk! Let's hope the weather sorts itself out and warms up a bit. Any tips on flies or is it the usual Buzzers, CDC, etc?

Bryan.

Well the jobs sorted then and that's a mighty fine fish you got there Tack4, I'll take my camera and post some pics on here afterwards. Let's hope there is plenty of reel burning activity and tired arms

I have to say though I have never heard so many good things said about a fishery in 20 years fishing. I'm looking forward to it. Also thanks for the info to everyone who responded.

Bryan

aldernuek is a very nice place indeed with two of the most friendly people you will meet in fishing the fish are first class fight'n machines ,lean and well at themselfs real good looking fish....... if you fish small buzzers or drys you will do very well .....also watch out for the wee white fluffy guy with the very sharp teeth he's so cute my kids would just want to take him home.
