Default Farletonview Fishery in Cumbria

Hi,
I'm going to the lakes - near Kendal - at the start of June. I've got some fishing on the Kent sorted out, but thought I might get some stillwater fising in. Found 'Farletonview' on one of the websites, and it's quite near.

Anyone have any experience with this fishery, or have any other recommendations near Kendal?

Cheers
Stuart

Farleton is one of my favourite haunts, however I haven't visited recently. Ask Simon at the lodge for info on what's catching.

Top flies include Black spiders, Olive nymphs, Shipmans, Epoxy buzzers (Flashback buzzers are worth using; and I would also take some Olive and Black redheads), CDCs (I can guarantee that you'll catch on these when the fish are on the top), Blobs (use one of these with a floating line and a long-ish leader, then just leave it to drift) and Diawl bachs. Bibios and Bloodworm are also worth trying.

Generally speaking, anything small and dull should catch.

There's also a stream that runs parallel to the fishery and around the back, it contains plenty of small brownies. Again, ask Simon for the details.

Never fished Farleton myself but a mate of mine has a caravan on the site and fishes it on weekend evenings when he is there. He rates it as a pleasant diversion and little more - a bit of a 'hole in the ground' fishery.

A far better bet is to drive 20 minutes up the road and fish the excellent Bigland Hall.

The main reason I like Farleton is the dry fly action it provides when the weather is bad at High Newton or if I only have time for a quick evening session. It gets weedy in the summer though, since the average depth is only 10-12ft.

To the OP: If the fishing at Farleton is hard, try the edge of the small bay on the bank running parallel to the stream.
