Why do you ask?

In my local Scottish angling club we only have two types of bailiffs. The members and the police. The police are bailiffs because they have statutory powers over and beyond the members. The members are basically only empowered to , on showing their own membership permit,to ask the person fishing to produce their permit.

If the offender is using methods not approved by the club, it is game, set and match but it never as easy as that. But in answer to your question , there are no criminal record checks on the members acting as bailiffs on their own club waters..

As long as you have a criminal record, you're in.

as the lads say no criminal checks are done on club bailiffs however to become a crown bailiff there are certain criterias you must meet.

I am thinking of becoming a Bailiff, plan to take the exam. At current time at university studyling Law and decided to pursue an interest I've had for a few years. That being a Water Bailiff.

I would be appointed by the First Minister as my area has no DSFB, only a trust. Therefore was wondering if convictions would hamper this? Hope not as I have the green light to practice Law!!

I would guess it depended upon what your criminal record stated you were convicted of. If it is your long time goal to be a bailiff, then find out the answer to your question now, before channelling yourself. Do that by talking to your prospective employers.

I would assume that as no DSFB is in place for my area then I would be appointed by the Scottish Govt? I have two unspent convictions for Breach of the Peace. So far I can only see the Scottish Govt require details of unspent. therefore I would think for the moment in time my chances are very slim!
