Default Fishing around Bristol?

Hi All,

Have recently moved to Bristol with work and was hoping to find some nice local fishing spots. Just looking for a bit of river fishing in the evenings after work if anybody can point me in the right direction.

Im off home next weekend for the mayfly and hope to bring the rod back or maybe just buy a new one. Either way would be nice to do a bit of fishing after work. Is there any local clubs worth joining?

If you have a look on the Complete Fisher Forum you will see an ongoing, very active thread headed "Bristol Waters 2010" or similar.

They are a really nice bunch of guys who live and fish around Bristol. Mainly revloves around Blagdon and Chew but quite a lot of them fish rivers as well and I'm sure would help.

You could put in for membership with the Berkeley Est Syndicate or Charfield AA who both control stretches of the Little Avon in Gloucestershire but there is presently a waiting list for both clubs.

Bathampton AA control a nice stretch of the Box Brook just outside of Box village (no waiting list), and also have a small stretch of the River Chew near Compton Dando.

Chew Fly Fishers also control a nice stretch of the River Chew from Pensford to Woolard.

Bristol Avon & Tribs also have some very nice water on several rivers in the area Midford Brook etc.

Contacts for either Chew Fly Fishers or Avon & Tribs can be got from either Dave or Steve in Veals fishing tackle shop (which im guessing you have probably found already) & the other clubs mentioned have websites which should provide you with a fair bit of info about the respective clubs.

hope this helps

all the best

Dave

In addition to Morty's list, have a look here, Knowle Angling, there's no list as far as I know, but they have some very nice beats.

You're welcome.

What rod are you thinking of? I was in Veals on Monday and they're selling loads of the 6'6'' GRXi #5's for some bizzare reason ... bit strange in my view but apparently the resi boys find other set ups too light?

If you're in two minds then come and try before you buy ... you can borrow my trusty old GRXi 7ft #3, I've got a few other rods to choose from myself now.

the cheapest one

no paticular rod in mind but a general all rounder does me...aways used a 9'6 #6-7 as all my fishing was done on bigger rivers.

thanks arkle also...but I cant even tie my own shoe laces
