Default Dropper Wrapping round leader

Hi All

This has been bugging me for ages, so hoping someone can help me on here

For the last countless years about every 10th cast i have to 'un-spin' my dropper or dropers from the leader line. This is a pain in the a55 'cus as soon as I unspin them the stored energy in the line retwists them all....

IS there any way to stop this. My droppers are formed using a knot simular to the water knot, except i create 2 double loops and feed the line through twice. (Cutting the bottom waste line away) I have tried tying a simple knot afterwards to make the dropped stay at 90d but still no joy.... any ideas or iam i just being daft???

Cheers
Chris

Keep your droppers short, and try these, they DO work.

When fishing droppers I ensure that the dropper is no longer than the width of my hand.
I use a 2 turn water knot, and since doing this I have a lot less tangles. I did consider using all sorts of rings etc, as in the other post, but why over-complicate things?
Regards,
Gary

A 2 turn water knot is all that I use... to make it 'stand-out' just half hitch it and pull the dropper up.... again, as scuba says, not too long.. dont listen to the 12-14 inch brigade ... alternatively, if allowed (not in comps) why not attach a small snap swivel to the end of your butt piece? then tie your leader... works a treat on rivers in turbulent water.

Do you fish a traditional dry fly with up wings? Some patterns behave like propellers and twist excessively. If so you might try diffferent flies...

I think droppers tangling around the leader is just a fact of life. To minimise tangles I use a cast with just one dropper which is kept as short as possible and which I attach to a small metal leader ring. The tippet and the point fly are attached to the same ring.

This arrangement allows you to change the dropper more easily just use a new piece of line to attach to the ring once the dropper line is too short to change the fly.

I still get the odd tangled dropper, probably due to a badly timed cast, but this method cuts down on time spent untangling line and I spend more time fishing.

If I've run out of leaders with rings I form the dropper using either three turn water knots or double grinner knots, both give reasonable presentation.

Captain

Thanks for this - i tend to use between 4-8 inches dependant on fly and presentation requirements (as with most male measurements its probably only 3 inchs )

I like the swivel idea, i shall try this when i go up to the Eden in a few months time.

Fly wise it has been happening with most patterns - i shall make sure my droppers are shorter and see what happens
