Default Importing gear from New Zealand???

Hi folks,

Quick question please..

I've imported rods and gear from the US a few times in the past, some got in without getting Import duty, some didn't. I always factored in about +20% on the overall price to cover getting stung.

If found some stuff in NZ which is very difficult to get in the UK and wondered if anyone new what the craic with importing from here.. same deal?

Just looking to find out how much of an additional % I should factor in to give me a ball park figure for overall cost including Import Duty if i get charged?

Thanks in advance

Cb

Don't know if it helps, but I imported some stuff from NZ around 4 years ago ( approx £1000 ) Couriers kept it and I had to pay £240 Customs etc before they would release it. it wasn't fishing gear so don't know if that makes a difference.

Hi Clydebuilt,

As far as H M Revenue and Customs are concerned, the deal is exactly the same as if your were importing from the USA or any country outside the EU. If over the "de minimis" value , which I believe is around £35, you will be charged 17.5% vat, plus import duty the rate of which varies but depending upon the goods could be up to around 12%. Then you have the carriers collection charge .Overall alow for 20 -25% of your import price.
