Default kit from the states?

I have a friend who is going to the states soon. is it worth getting them to send stuff back or is exchange rate too poor at moment?
I need a new vice that takes large saltwater and pike hooks well. my scottie vice wont hold a 2/0 salt hook still. any recommendations?
thanks, dave

A dyna king barracuda is the job for the big hooks.

This question comes up a lot, but I think the current answer is that given the pound's weakness against the dollar, there isn't a huge cost benefit in getting gear from the US right now. If they send it to you, you could end up getting socked for VAT, duty, and carrier fees. When the pound was buying almost $2, it was a different story.

Now if you could talk your friends into bringing it back with them, I'd think it'd probably still be worth it. The UK allowance for good purchased overseas is generous so there's every chance you wouldn't have to pay tax or duty if they bring it back.

I think that sums it up. Things are cheaper if you buy in the US.

The minute you introduce Postage, recently increased dramatically in the US and VAT you add, in effect about 30% to your cost. Import Duty is not significant but does add a bit because VAT is piled on that, as well.
