Default River Swale access

Hi,
can anyone help me with gaining access to the Swale, upstream of Richmond?

I've looked on the web and a number of websites state that Richmond and District Angling Society have the rights and sell day tickets through Gilsons and the Tourist Information Office, both in Richomnd. I've asked in both and they both say that they no longer sell the day tickets.

I've not fished the Swale, although I;ve walked it above Richmond and it looks fantastically fishy, as well as great scenery. I just need some help locating a day ticket!! Any help gratefully recieved.

Daran

Reeth Angling Club have about 15 miles or so of the upper Swale, day tickets from the Post Office in Reeth or try the Bridge Inn at Grinton they also sell tickets. The club chairman is a regular there just ask for baldy Brian and he will put you right.

Default Swale access

Thanks for the reply BobSmith. What's the water like around Reeth....I've not been that far upstream?

The river upstream of Richmond looked a bit low today when I was going past. Is it fishable that far upstream at the moment? If so, I'll probably have a go next weekend.

Thanks for your help.

Not been up to the Swale yet this season as I'm upper Wharfe and Ribble man, and only get to the Swale half a dozen time a season. If you get a day ticket at the Reeth post office, ask for a club map as well, it will show you all the beats. I normally park by Gunnerside bridge and fish upstream for a few miles. Its good trout water with lots of wild fish and the odd big stockie.

Do you mean Richmond & District have stopped selling the day tickets or have the places you mentioned stopped selling them?
If it's the latter, try Northallerton Angling shop.
Otherwise, you might as well buy a years membership; it should only cost you around £40 including the joining fee.

As Ultralight says your best bet would be to visit andy scaiffe at northallerton angling in zetland street in Northallerton, he has all the up to date info and is a nice guy to chat to, he also stocks a very good selection of fly fishing equipment.

Default Swale access

Hi everyone. Thanks for the advice about going to Northallerton for some advice. I'll do that.

My understanding, from Gilsons and the Tourist Information office in Richmond, is that it is only that they are no longer providing day tickets. I've no information to state that Richmind and District Angling Society have stopped selling day tickets. If anyone from that club is on the forum....maybe they could enlighten us?

The river above Richmind looks fantastic. It would be a shame if day ticket access was to become harder to obtain.

Default River Swale Day Tickets

I know it has been some time since anyone has added to this post but I have only just joined the forum. Gilsan's stopped selling day tickets but you can get them from Castle Sports on Finkle Street, Richmond. - £6 per day.

Can confirm the sports shop sells the tickets.

re. access if you drive along the road along side the river you will see little square yellow signs giving access. A word of warning though..these access points are dangerous to get to (being on fast road) there are no layby's close by either. I would park in the car park (paid) next to the first caravan park and walk up. Other that that, the next caravan park up is an access point too but would check with owner about parking. (he too used to sell tickets) You should receive a map if you get a ticket from the sports shop on Finkle street.

I know this thread is old but may help someone else...Good luck
