Default MY LADS FIRST DAY WITH THE FLY ROD

Hello folks thought i would share this with you folks. Took my lad Martin flyfishing for the first time yesterday and what a day he had and me
Thought i would try and take him to a place that he would have a chance of catching a trout or two and he would not get scunerd on his first day with the fly rod, So I took him to a place called Boreland herd on here it was very easy so off we went left house at 9am arrived at fishery 940am nice wee drive saw a few fish moving so on went the midge tip and the old faithful the cat whisker, So i cast a bit of line onto the water and was explaining to my lad why i chose this set up and you guessed it line went flying out of my hand after a decent fight fish threw the hook, Cast it out again gave the rod to my boy i was doing the casting at first as i was explaining the different line retrieves to him when suddenly i saw a big bow wave right behind his fly didn't know who was more excited him or me any ways fish on this is a good blue around the 3lb mark after a good fight fish throws the hook
We moved up to the top lake on went a red blob bang first cast this was a good fish then it was a lost fish and lost fly to much tention
another red blob goes on couple casts later for him bang this was another good fish this was a good blue well over the 4lb mark snapped him again went round to the far bank on went the cat again fish on this time he is playing it right this time i have him on camera nice fish just under the 3lb mark fish went back every thing goes quiet for about 20 mins his casting is coming on a treat and i keep telling him think he was getting embarrassed a bit with me hahaha fish on this fish gave him a real good fight but after guidance i have it in the net for him fish over the 3lb mark all i can say what a day he had 2 good fish caught 2 good fish lost and his smile said it all here is a few pics of the day

This is so nice to see and well done young man. I can remember when I was a lad starting out, showing my dad up every week

Can't wait till my lad is old enough to have a crack but at two and a half years old I think i've a while to wait yet.

Hope you keep at it and keep your dad proud.

Mat

Great post Jim, it's what this forum should be all about, youngsters with big smiles on their faces, and getting into the finest sport in the world.
Thanks for showing us.

Agree 100 % with Mr Trout - brought the memories flooding back. But never mind me. Well done to the lad.
