Default Emerger problem

I am having a problem with fishing my emerger flies.
My set up is- floating line with 12ft tapered leader then 2ft of 4x tippet, and
one fly.
I make a shortish cast to about 2o clock and try and let the fly trundle
down at the pace of the current.
When I first use the fly, everything seems ok but after 4-5 casts my fly sinks.
On inspection -I find that it is waterlogged so I have to try and fluff it up a
bit, sometimes putting a floatent powder on it.
This works for a couple of casts but the same thing happens again.
I am aware that the fly will take in water but should it do it so often?
At the end of the drift and as I retrieve the fly, I have noticed that the
emerger pops under the surface.
Could it be that my fly line or leader is sinking and I am drowning the fly on
the retrieve.
I hope that I have explained my problem so that it is understood.
Look forward to your advice ------- Peter

What fly and size hook are you using? The sinking you have described happens to me all the time, you just have to get used to it. Amadou is excellent for drying saturated flies. Floatant should help keep them on top longer but it won't work forever. CDC dries float very well, do you use these? Are you letting the fly drift drag free or are you imparting movement? The line tip and leader sinking might mean that as you lift off, your fly will go through the surface where the line originally did (that mightn't be very clear, but if it isn't I can draw a picture.) Look here for a way to lift off without getting the fly too wet
, it also avoid spooking fish as Oliver says.
