Default Floatant

hi

I ordered some flies the other day and in order to make the order up to a tenner and as I was running low on Gink, I stuck in a bottle of Redditch Mucilin floatant ( £1.50) - it comes with a liitle applicator brush - didn't seem to make 'em float or am I doing something wrong?

cheers

Mucilin isn't much good,really.
I particularly don't like the way it tends to drench the whole fly.Stick with gink, that way your flies will float and you can apply it were you want it.

All the good stuff - as I keep repeatedly telling folks , is nothing more complex than Medical Grade Silicon Oil !

Best wishes

I am a great advocate of powdered floatant, particularly Frogs Fanny, as I don't find any of the silicone based gels/liquids work really (unless used in combination with a powder).

Only gripe is it's £7 for a small pot that doesn't last very long (I reapply regularly). I'm reliably informed that Frogs Fanny is actually made from dried corn cob husks.

Watch out though, some of the powders are just for drying, Loon I think.
