Default A question about Closed Seasons

Can anyone please tell me why the trout closed season is almost double (6 months, Sept - Mar) the length of the closed course season (3 months, Mar - June)? Its not like the trout need any longer to recover because you can catch plenty of trout by accident, out of season in January and February on the worm/maggot/ spinner. Nor is that fly fishing should be too cold (with the exception of this winter 09/10) plenty of folks fishing the fly for grayling. So why is it so?

I think it depends where you are also, 'my' syndicate has a closed season of end Oct to April 1 and the season on some stillwaters ends November until Apr 3. I don't know the reason for the extended c.s. perhaps browns take longer to regain condition?
