Default Its Tick Time

Its that time of year when ticks are out,I would have thought the hard winter would have killed all the wee b......s but sadly not.
if your like me ,I hate the things and heard all the stories of tweezers, fag s,thumbs to get them out, but the one that I have found which is just perfect and easy, does the job simply and I have used them for a few years now.heres a link for them and there is a video on it aswell which dont watch after lunch.

Tick Remover: Product: BADA-UK

I carry it all the time fishing and walking the dog.

Hope its usefull for someone.

Kevin good point made , as lymes disease is something i dont wish to contract, after reading about it and seeing the state of Martin Bowler after he contracted it from a tick ....

Yes its alot more common than we appreciate. They reckon 1 in 3 carries the disease.Very disabling when you get it aswell.Everyone should make themselves aware of the symptoms and if you go to the doctor always mention that you were bitten by a tick. Its something that Doctors overlook, not intentionly and could be the cause.

Horrible things.Just pulled one off the dog about the size of a raisin, right on his duck run,not an easy place to get at.Thats 2 so far this week and it aint as hot up here, in fact its baltic. That tool gets them off easy.

If walking in the Quantocks you are recommended to always wear long sleeves and trousers, as there is a mite which inhabits the underside of the bracken. If infected by this little charmer the symptoms are the same as syphilis

Don't forget to read this bit too.

Index:Correct Tick Removal: BADA-UK

There are only two safe ways to remove them and using creams, oils and lighted cigarettes isn't in there.

I personnally put a bit of butter on them as this stops them from breathing and has worked for me

Default Ticks are a real issue in my corner of the world too.

Darned interesting little tool; another thing I've not seen on this side of the Pond. Vis a vis your pets, this may be a handy thing to have around, but it won't replace a monthly application of Frontline+. Stuff is expensive, but it works 100% "as advertised."

As noted above, ticks are a real problem in my corner of the world too, but for some odd reason, fleas are few and far between. Not that I'd want them added to the venue, but still a bit odd.

yes frontline is expensive,I went on to use advantix, which is the same but cheaper than frontline. But I always find the odd one or two wee things have sneaked onboard for a ride,so the tool is always at hand.

I hate touching the things,so the butter is out bigdon for me.Bit of a wuss with ticks, out else no probs.

to say the ticks get a good firing when there off.

Please double check this, but:

From reading one of the tick websites butter is probably more dangerous than leaving them alone. I can cause the tick to regurgitate the blood back into the carrier's bloodstream with the pathogen included - something they wouldn't have done if left alone.

The same goes for squashing them. But as I say, double check.
