hi, me and my m8 are going fishing today (small stillwater) , hes not been fly fishing before so what set up should i give him and what flies ?

Nine foot six long rod seven weight floating line.

Tapered leader not more than 9' long (buy a few).

Flies? - Best guesses are likely to come from a local fly tackle place - but absent any other clues...

Pheasant tailed nymph in 12 and 14
Gold head hare's ear nymph - 10 to 14
Olive Damsel.
Gold headed blob/fritz things in 8 to 12 -
Selection of buzzers.

If one doesn't work - try something else.

Do not attempt to fish more than a single fly at a time - he'll have enough trouble with that.
