Default Where do I stand?

I recently bought a rod from the forum. I received the rod today and had the compulsory wiggle when it arrived. As i wiggled it I could hear a light cracking noise (almost like a clicking noise). Had the rod been brand new I would have presumed it was the varnish cracking as it was put under pressure for the first time (not sure if fly rods actually do this but carp rods do).

As the rod is not new I am concerned that it may me a crack in the carbon underneath the rod and could go at any time, again something I have experienced with coarse rods.

I thought it could be a loose ferule and re waxed them all but to no avail.

Now the seller described the rod as being in excellent condition bar the reel handle, now I would not class a rod making a cracking noise as being excellent.

I am not prepared to use the rod as I would be worried it would crack at any moment.

I contacted the seller immediately and received the reply that he was not prepared to take it back it could have been me that broke it, he bought it off another forum member and sold it straight on so I should contact him, then finished the email saying that the best thing to do is sell it on on ebay and he'd make up the difference, up to £15, if the rod sold for less than £100 (I paid more than that by the way).

His response was disappointing for a forum member and suspiciously dismissive.

Of coarse I was good enough to send Paypal as a "gift" to save him the fees so have no comeback through them, I was just wondering where I stood.

I KNOW EVERYONE DOES IT INCLUDING MYSELF BUT IM THINKING THAT PAYPAL AS A GIFT IS A BIT RISKY (oops caps lock again)with no come back, paypal fees are not that excessive compared to ebay fees so maybe a lesson learned for all.shame to hear it though from another forum member. if a parcel is not sent insured for enough and it goes missing this is another scenario for problems(it happened to me when i bought a fishfinder for £140 and the seller sent it £30 max ins and never arrived and were it not for paypal i would have lost out rather than the silly seller.)cover your selves as much as possible i suppose send payment as items bought and pay the fees on top? hope you resolve it

I think the seller should give you a full refund and also the P&P costs for returning the rod. If he/she doesn't he should come onto the Forum and tell his/her side of the story.

sounds a guilty reply to me , probably bought it the same way as yourself, found out its broke as you have and sold it straight on knowing full well the scenario , a dishonest and untrustworthy seller by the sounds of it good luck with your plight ...

DON'T name the seller. Take the issue up with Admin, they are the best bet in such a case. Explain you story and they'll get in touch with the seller and hear his.

Those who usually want someone named and shamed are usually just after a little entertainment. There are always two sides to every story. As said, take this up with Admin.
