I am glad you liked the article and that it helped you - it gets a lot of hits from people looking for "ticking and clicking" rods.

I was told some right horror stories about the noise and was not advised correctly at pretty much every step of the way.

Gary Coxon was hopeless - he said he had never heard of the problem before even though my pal had sent him a rod the previous week with the exact same problem - maybe substitute hopeless for dishonest - I could not be bothered pointing this out to him as he was obviously miffed that I had bought the rod from the states.

You can see how easy it would be for the seller not to spot as people do not often wave their rod about in their living room when there is no noise - if you add wax to it again and took it down the birdsong would probably drown out the ticking and clicking noise.

Oh - and by the way - even though the ferrules now have no wax in them they have never stuck at all !

I am pleased to have read all the posts, edge of the seat stuff thinking some one was going to be hung drawn and quartered on the forum,,,then it all happened,,,,common sense prevailed,,,,,
cracking and ticking hoises are all part of the game with modern fly rods i fear.Got a sage which is over 10 yrs old which made a cracking noise in the butt section for the best part of the 10 yrs,did everything i could ,cleaned off the ferrule,re waxed the ferrule, fished it ,fished it and fished, even phoned Gary coxon to say although i hadnt stood on it i though it might have a crack somewhere internaly on the butt section, then one day,not long ago i decided that the reel fitting was knackered i should put a new one one,so i boiled the old one off and found,
Wait for it

a massive sliver of glue up the inside of the blank, put a new fitting on and, after ten years no clicking, now, the problem is after all these years i kind of got used to that feeling and the rods not the same,

just though i would put my story forward and am happy this thing has all worked out without any one falling out.

tight lines

Bry
