Come on. Before all this talk of refunds and name-and-shame, wouldn't it be logical to actually find out if there is, in fact, something actually wrong with the rod? Seems logical to me at least.

My guess is a slightly loose guide whipping is allowing the guide to slip a little when flexed causing the noise. This can go either way, it could just go away after wearing in or it could get worse.

Loose ferules is also possible. Personally I'm doubting it's a crack in the blank because IMO it'd have to be a big crack in ofer to actually make a noise, so it'd be easy to see.

I'd say inspect it and if there are no obvious flaws, line it up and start casting. If it's going to break, it'll break during the first good haul.

As "Admin" had no part in the transaction, there would appear to be no reason to bother him.

If this is "damage in transit" - then you (or the seller) may have a case with the courier.

Alternatively - if suspected of being a pre-existing condition.

1. Small claims court.
2. If resolved in your favour - name and shame.

Jim there are previous instances of this happening on top of the range fly rods.If you google up clicking noise in fly rods you will find a reference to it in urbanflyfisher.com.There is a remedy which is straightforward so hopefully may solve your issue at least with the noise.Fingers crossed and good luck I guess.

Great article thanks and just the trick, cleaned off all the wax and the noise is gone.

At least it prooves I wasn't going mad and suprised the previous owner never heard it must have been the postman that put on the excess wax and then wrapped it up again!!

Get out and use it.
If it does break it is then "NOT FIT FOR PURPOSE", at that point ask for full refund through admin, and then name and shame.
If it doesnt break after a couple of tries then is ok. job done!!
