Ah, a bit of common sense creeping in.
Come on. Before all this talk of refunds and name-and-shame, wouldn't it be logical to actually find out if there is, in fact, something actually wrong with the rod? Seems logical to me at least.
My guess is a slightly loose guide whipping is allowing the guide to slip a little when flexed causing the noise. This can go either way, it could just go away after wearing in or it could get worse.
Loose ferules is also possible. Personally I'm doubting it's a crack in the blank because IMO it'd have to be a big crack in ofer to actually make a noise, so it'd be easy to see.
I'd say inspect it and if there are no obvious flaws, line it up and start casting. If it's going to break, it'll break during the first good haul.
