Default Three Fishing Bibles?

Hi Everyone, I got home from work this evening to find Oliver Edwards' 'Wet Fly Fishing on Rivers'. I'm watching it now and there's so much here that's going to help me improve my fishing. But there's one thing that he so far hasn't explained...
During the clip where he explains the 'Square Across' method of casting he says:
'For those of you who have the three great fishing bibles, this is the one Stewart (Stuart?) talks about as being the downstream method.
Does anyone know which three books he's referring to?
Cheers,
Mike

You can guess by the number of replies that no one wants to suggest or comment!
1st one has got to be The Compleate Angler by Izaak Walton.
2nd one, and the one I think Oliver is referring to is, The Practical Angler by W.C. Stewart (1877)
and the last, but no means least, must be My Way with Trout, by the late great Arthur Cove.

Just my thoughts as to the three bibles
However others might know better
regards
bert

Hi there Mike,
Olivers dvds are really great, ive got a few of them.
As for the books. The practical angler W.C Stewart This is a wonderfull little book which can usually found on ebay.

I think the other title is Brook and river trouting Edmonds and lee.
This is a lot harder to find,i have not got a copy yet.

As for the third im not sure.

Hope this helps.

Hi Folks,

I would definitely recommend Stewarts Practical Angler to anyone fishing rivers, although over 150 years old it's still very relevant and I'm sure Mr Edwards is refering to this. I would also be interested to know which other two books make up his other great fishing bibles.

You can check out Edmonds and Lee Brook and River Trouting here -:
Brook and river trouting, a manual of modern north country methods, with coloured illustrations of flies and fly-dressing materials
It's a great little book but I still prefer Stewarts as an out and out how to catch fish manual.

Cheers

Michael
