After what is possibly some of the best anglers in the uk i have heard that the fishing at Chew was terrible? Can any one confirm or deny this?
I was going to fish it this week but after the reports i may give it a miss?

Whilst not part of the above comp I fished Chew on sat eve for a few hours (boat), good evening rise, but could not temp anything on dries, resorted to stripping a team of blobs and took a single fish right on the last knockings. The ranger said 188 fish had been taken in the comp, with only 3 limit bags.

The Barrows would seem to be the best option at the moment.

Not terrible, not brilliant either. But with a rod average of around 3 or 4, several limits and a number of fish in the 3 and 4 lb bracket, it wasn't a bad day at all.
Just because you can't bag up with stockies inside 2 hours doesn't make it a terrible water.

I agree i fished the comp ended up with 4 dropped a couple and had 5 or 6 other takes not easy but who really wants a stockie bash where result could be a lottery. Rod average of 4 or near as damn it and fish in good nick can only improve with weather . Chew has always been slow to start in cold weather another month will be a fair test.
