Default Trip to Avington + Dever

Hi all
Apologies if this post is in the wrong place.

I am wanting to fish these Avington & Dever this year and will be traveling down from the N.East, staying in a close by Travelodge

A couple of questions if I may,

1. will they allow non fishers onto the waters, SWMBO is coming along and likes to sit and read a book while I fish

2. What month would you suggest, I am going to make it a mid week visit hoping it may not be so busy.

Any other suggestions greatly appreciated

Thanks Gaz

Hi Gaz
The best times I have found are May/ Early June or September/October as the water hasn't warmed up too much and there is plenty of light to see what is going on. Midweek you shouldn't have too much of a problem with numbers.
When we have had club days, there has never been a problem with non-fishers, but it would be worth checking with Sam and Niall the respective fishery managers, to check on the situation on normal days.
As regards accommodation, we usually stay at either the travelodge on the A34 at Sutton Scotney (- use the back exit to get to Dever) or for a little more money, the Coach & Horses in Sutton Scotney has a few rooms- very friendly and great food- it's worth eating there even if you stay at the travelodge.
If you want any more information, pm me.
Hope this is of some help
Paul

Hi Gaz, ive never had a problem with non fishers coming to watch at either water.

I'd suggest anytime from now until Mid June as the best time, and then early September if you can't make it then. take some weighted buzzers and damsels and be prepared to walk around a lot if you're stalking. Drop me a PM and i'll let you have a few hot spots, or look on the Avington thread in stillwater updates. Do remember that if you fish blind you're not seeing these places at their best. creep about, get yourself into tight spots and you'll see some cracking fish to target.

Hi
Thanks for the replies.
I was thinking more later in the year than sooner, so I think I will try it for the beginning of September.

Paul - Thanks for the heads up regarding places to stay, definitely have a look at the Coach and Horses, That should keep SWMDO happy if the meals are good.

BrownieBasher - I will keep looking at the reports in Stillwater Updates and if you don't mind will PM you closer to the Dates

Cheers Gazza
