Default Fishing Near Cardiff

Hi Guys,

I've been asked to attend a meeting in Cardiff on the 22nd, so I'm going to drive down from North Wales on the morning of the 21st and try and wet a line with a colleague.

Can anyone suggest a good fishery in that area please?

Regards

Andy

A bit away from Cardiff, but I would go to Llandegfedd if you have the time. Closer to Cardiff, and a nice smaller reservoir is Ynys y Fro I'm going tonight after work for the first time this year so will let you know how it's fishing.

All the best - Steve

There are a number of small fisheries very close to Cardiff, Dyffryn Springs to the west, Canada Lakes to the north and Cefn Mably to the east - all popular and all with web sites. Also you have the Taff running through the middle - there is a big thread under UK river updates on the forum.

Hope this helps

I'd definatley suggest Llandegfedd - If this weather keeps up you could have a great day on the buzzers and could always pass on anything you find out to me who is fishing the trials there a few days later.

if it's a small water you're looking for then Cefn Mably is probably your best bet around Cardiff. Assuming you're coming down the A470 you've always got Clywedog nr Llanidloes or Llyn Gwyn nr Rhayader for a hlaf way stop, The beacons resevoirs between Brecon and Merthyr also worth a go.

You might also be lucky and get a couple of places at Gludy Lake nr Brecon. You usually book the whole lake for the day for 6 people but I've fished there before now with a mate just by phoning the night before and seeing if they had any space available.

I agree with WF, llandeg and ynysyfro are the best local stillwater fisheries. The lower Taff is off form at the moment and a trip towards Pontypridd will be the best bet for river fishing.

If you prefer river fishing I'd also look at the WUF beats on the Monnow or Usk systems, some of the best wild trout fishing in the country. Unless you like "holes in the ground" Llandegfedd would be my choice for stillwater and the buzzer fishing in April can be spectacular.
