Question Advice on form Minehead area lakes please..

I'm off down to my parents in Minehead this week { 12/04/10} outside chance of sneaking the fly rod out, only interested in stillwaters. I have looked at Hawkridge, Wimbleball, Exe Valley Fishery etc and wondered if anyone could recommend the best place {And early season tactics} where I stand a chance of hooking up, don't care boat or bank.

Many Thanks Mark.

Exe Valley is a small put & take fishery, usually easy to catch (sometimes too easy). Wimbleball is a large reservoir, a couple of hundred acres or more with stocked rainbows and a head of wild browns. For me there is no contest it would be Wimbleball every time. I would recommend a boat as bank access is difficult on much of the reservoir. Unless you have an electric outboard book a boat with engine unless you like a lot of rowing. A bit early yet for drys, Wimbleball even has a small mayfly hatch, so lures, buzzers and wets will all work. Black is usually successful. I will be fishing it myself on Thursday.
You might also like to consider Clathworthy another excellent venue
Regards
Bill

Bit nearer to Minehead is Burton Springs - a small stillwater. Only fished twice, when the weather was foul but did catch. See website for more - Burton Springs Fishery - Home

Bill, thanks very much, I have an electric outboard - all I have to do is sneak it into the car - tricky !! I think I'll try Exe Valley as in the time I have "easy" suits !!

Thanks - PJS , saw that one too, will toss up between Burton and Exe Valley - though the "easy" bit of Exe Valley sounds good at the moment. Cheers to all .

I would go to Burton
Just a couple of miles away from Burton is Hawkridge and that is a superb small ressie of around 30ish acres.
Get an evening boat there and bag up
