Default Airline hand baggage rules

Hi All,
I'm going to the Czech Republic at the end of May ( a rotten job but someone has to do it . We are going from Manchester with a very quick connection in Munich so I want to take some tackle in my hand baggage in case our checked bags do not make the transfer. Has anyone any experience of taking forceps, nippers, a full fly box etc. in hand baggage ? I can borrow a rod there.
Cheers
Bill

I made the mistake of leaving my artery forceps in my hand luggage a few years ago when returning from Malaga and had them confiscated.
I don't think you will be allowed to carry the items you mention.

Shouldn't even try it. It doesn't matter what the Airline says, it's the Bloke on Security who says what goes on and what doesn't.

Up until my pal retired from East Midlands Airport he used to bring me ridiculous numbers of Scissors , Tweezers , Nail Clippers , penknives etc etc that the unwary had tried to take on in their hand luggage and failed to reclaim afterwards on the return flight .

I used to boil them to sterilise them ( you don't quite know what they've actually been used for ) and then gave them away to customers foc .

Put the gear in the hold and don't be silly !

Best wishes

Steve P

Anybody make me an offer for 50 pairs of cr.p tweezers thus obtained ?

Following on from what people have said, don't risk anything that you don't want confiscating. As said it comes down to the teams on the gates, but from my experience the security in the UK will not even allow your flies/hooks in your hand luggage.

I hate having to put my flies in the hold, but its the only way

A guy on the security at Shannon found a fly box in my hand luggage and said I appeared to carrying dangerous objects. I said I didn't realise there were any fish on the plane. He let me through but I haven't risked it since.

This is exactly right.

Also, keep in mind that the security practices and regulations vary from country to country, so just because you were allowed to take something on board on one part of the trip doesn't mean it will be allowed on other segments of the flight or the return trip.

The bottom line is save yourself the hassle and just check all fishing gear. It won't matter anyway, because what good are flies and a foreceps if your waders and boots and other gear that was in checke baggage go missing?
