Default Riverside Country Park (private trout lake)

Hye to you all.

This is my first post.

Riverside Park is a caravan park, which is in Wooler.(Northumberland)
It has it,s own private fishing lake, and I will be going there in the next
two weeks.

I would like to know if any of you guys have fished this lake or have any information about it.

I do know that wooler water runs through this park and this river is free
to fish.

Many Thanks.

Iam going up there in june, had a look round the place last year very impressed with it had a look at the private lake there was one young lad fishing it and while i was there he caught a nice rainbow.I am mainly going up there to fish the rivers, fished the river til last year and had some cracking sport, nothing to big but all wild, just the way i like it.The river til is only about 15 minutes away,i will give the river that flows through the park a go.Were i live i have quite a few big waters around me but no rivers to fish unless i want to pay about £70 a day so it is great to get some river fishing in when i go away I can get a weeks river fishing up there for what it can cost me for one day.let me know how you get on.

Hi have you checked that it's fly fishing I have a feeling that it's coarse fishing;I've driven past it a few times and have never seen anyone fishing it yet, a phone call to riverside would clarify the issue, I will gladly stand corrected on this just that 3 years ago my family and I stayed at Akeld Station just to the north of town and the nearest fly fishing was at Fontburn Resr. there is fly fishing near by at Chatton just outside Wooler to the East along the B6348

Thanks for the replys.

Its defo a fly fishing lake. I phone the park up and they are sending some prices for fishing this lake.

I stumbled across it by accident as we have always stayed at highburn park, when we have been fishing chatton.

And I was google earthing the riverside site when I noticed the lake.
Can't believe, it because I've been going there for three yrs and never knew about it.

Just love the idea of fishing with sum tinnies till it's too dark to fish, and having only a short walk back too the caravan.

I will keep this updated when I have more info.

Many Thanks.[COLOR="Silver"]

Hi

I used to work on the site a few years ago. It has been sold on since then.

I fished the lake almost every day. It is small but is good fun. The normal lures worked fine (Black seemed better) along with buzzers (yellow buzzers seemed to be the preference) I found that fishing next to the first island was one of the best places as was the top end near to the stream inlet. If they are on the top and not taking lures try a small black fly about size 14 to 18. I tied up a fly with black seals fur body with a black deer hair wing. Very simple but caught fish there.

I would recommend the river aswell. Some very nice fish in there also. It is small, shallow and narrow in places but if you fish opposite the shop/office up to the bridge on site that seemed to be good. I used czech nymphs there and caught fish.

The best part of the river is on the road side towards the main road bridge. If there is a bit of water in the river it is excellent sport. Some very nice salmon in the river. I have seen them up to about 8lb. There is also some nice sea trout again up to about 4lb.

The brown trout are not big but great sport on the dry fly. Just watch the over hanging trees If the river hasnt changed too much i would also suggest that you run a dry fly down the rapids. Caught lots of really nice browns like this.

I wouldnt go past the main road bridge opposite the bar as it used to belong to the wooler angling club. Also the other way dont go past the end of the site as it is also private That may have changed so dont quote me on that.

I dont know if you can get a day ticket on the river Till which is only a couple of miles from the site. You can check at the post office in the town. This is an excellent river. I was a member of the club and had some really nice browns up to 1lb and grayling not too far away from 1lb. Again some huge salmon and sea trout. If you can and want to fish the river, Nymphs worked best through the day and dry's in the evening. The far end of the river (beat limit) was the best near to the inlet stream. You may get pestered by Perch but they are good fun also. I will warn you the fishing isnt easy. The rapids seemed to produce some trout and grayling.

Hope this helps. If you need any more info let me know. I cant say how much it costs now though.

Cheers

Alan

given.

I was planning to go there next week but due to work commitments
a may have to put this one on the back burner for another week.

Many thanks anyways. I will let you know how it goes and hopefuly post some pictures of the lake and river.
