Thumbs up Fly Fishing in Poland

Hello,

My friend, a fishing guide and instructor, Tomek Regula from Dorset, UK, has just started organising fly fishing trips to Poland to the San river and I thought it might be of interest to some of you. I can recommend his services because he is also my fishing instructor and on my very first fishing trip I caught a 6 pound steelhead! . If you have any questions regarding the trip or his fishing guiding, feel free to ask, I'm happy to answer. As far as I know the first date for the trip is scheduled for the 6th May, it's just a weekend trip and it looks like a lot of fun! Starting from this first weekend fishing weekends to Poland will be arranged on regular basis.

The San river is beautiful and it offers probably the best grayling and brown trout fishing all over Europe. If you are lucky, you can also catch hucho hucho (Danube salmon).

Has any of you fished in Poland yet?

I was wondering that too.

Just so we're clear on terminology, a "steelhead" is not a synonym for "rainbow trout". A steelhead is a sea-run rainbow trout, so it is true that all steelhead are rainbow trout, but not all rainbows are steelhead.

Hi,

I started only last year so I am a beginner but I've learnt already what a 'steelhead' means I've caught it on Chesil Beach, Abbotsbury, Dorset. I know that usually you can fish for it in the USA and Canada, the more lucky I feel that I've caught it here, in the UK. And really it was my first ever fishing trip!
Anyway you can have a look yourself

Thanks, have you anymore pictures of it ? and any details of the catch as its quite unusual to catch a sea run rainbow in the UK

The pictures more or less are similar but if you want I can try to find something more. In regards to the catch it was in September while I was fishing for mackerel with the use of mackerel feathers. I don't know what other details you would like to know, so just ask.

Anyway Tomek (my instructor) was surprised that steelhead here at the UK sea-shore is so rare because there are so many fisheries with rainbow trout here and it should be natural that they get sometimes to rivers and from there - to the sea. Nevertheless the fight was very exciting!

You may be confusing a steelhead (sea run rainbow) with a sea trout (sea run brown trout) perhaps ?
Welcome to the forum anyway Betty.
All the best,
Andy.
