Hoping to go to assynt to fish in june...been up there over the winter but never fished. Looks like there are so many places to go. Any ideas where to head for a first time trip, rivers or wee lochs, not fussed....taking my dad wild camping and fishing......cheers for any replies

This should help

Welcome | Assynt Angling Research

and don't forget anti-midge precautions. I was once forced off Assynt by them. Never moved so fast in wadders......................

Just type 'assynt' into the forum search facility, and you'll find plenty of info.
With so many lochs to choose from, deciding where to fish is a real headache, and just how any particular loch will be fishing in June is very much dependent on the weather, so your plans need to be flexible.
In rough weather I'd opt for North Assynt where you can always find some sheltered waters in the maze of rocky hills. There are fish everywhere and the small un-named lochans can hold surprisingly good trout.
A copy of Bruce Sandison's Rivers and Lochs of Scotland is essential to get the most from your trip. Enjoy and let us know how you get on.

If you want wild camping and fishing consider the corrie lochs above Inchnadamph (see my website for pictures).

Print off this leaflet from the Assynt Anglers.

http://www.assyntangling.org.uk/leaflet.pdf

And/or get a copy of Cathel McLeod's booklet Trout Fishing in Assynt.

Trout Fishing in Assynt: A Fishing Guide to 30 Trout Lochs of Assynt in the North West Highlands of Scotland: Amazon.co.uk: Cathel MacLeod: Books Trout Fishing in Assynt: A Fishing Guide to 30 Trout Lochs of Assynt in the North West Highlands of Scotland: Amazon.co.uk: Cathel MacLeod: Books

That should keep you busy

Once there go and have a word with Cathel at his Bed & Breakfast place up behind the Information Centre. Don't be in a hurry though as he enjoys a blether
