Default How much is Too much?

Following on a recent debate, one of the points which surfaced was the costs.

Some said they could not afford to fish for stocked fish and therefore the wild option was cheaper for them.

While in some cases I can understand this, but when a price of say £10 for cand r and many other prices, not far from this,I find it quite hard to believe.
especially when you look at the other non essentials we waste our money on.So surely if we enjoy something so much, a £10 has to be worth it?

Really is it not down to preference and cost is just a cover for some?

Some wild rivers have actually doubled their prices this year for visitors, leaving it far better for local anglers as less congestion ,

So how much is too much?

Bang on Kev, i think £10,11,12 is a fair price to pay for sport.(c&r obvoiusly). Personally i think £15 for a 4 hr c&r session is just too much. Clearly some will differ, but that is my view. Three fisheries equidistant from me, one offers £15 4 hr c&r, one £11 for the same and one £14 for 7hrs c&r.

You guys are very, very lucky.

Down here, £15-20 is the going rate on a small water for 6 hours C&R with a compulsory one or two fish kill.

Well i like a days fishing as its great to get out,but looking at those above terms and prices i would feel as though i was competing for time..a bit like swimming pools used to be( would swimmers with blue armbands please leave the pool!!)

I pay no more than 12 quid to fish all day C&R, morning to night without timing myself and no pressure....very relaxing.....i do feel a bit miffed paying more than half though for evining sessions on occasions.
If it changes from this then i think ill call it a day

BN, I believe you coarse fish as well ? Have you noticed how much the "high end" of coarse fishing now costs ? I used to fish with a guy who was in the Linch Hill syndicate in Oxfordshire for the roach - in 2004-5 he was paying nearly £500 for the season. Some of the carp syndicates are even dearer. At least £25 a day for winter long trotting on the chalk streams, plus your bait. Measured against all of this, more and more I am thinking that day ticket trouting - specially reservoir bank fishing and even in the south of England, see Steve Walker's list - is somewhere between reasonably priced and a bargain....
