Hi Bushman, welcome from a fellow Essexite! I live in Hornchurch.
I am relatively new to fly fishing, and fish for trout, so far. Would like to have a go at other fish on fly though, especially pike.
So, if you fancy a meet up, give me a shout.
Best regards,
Gary.

Hi Gary
there's a good chance of pike to a fly up on the River Chelmer most course bank angler mainly fish the first 200 yards each side of the road bridges but clear after that so it may be worth a go for pike as well as for other fish.

Most of Essex coarse fishing is hard enough with bait so I'll be really impressed if you catch anything on the fly !

there is a guy on here called "squirrels" who lives in chelmsford and fishes the chelmer regularly, in december he caught a 7 Lb Pike on the fly, and has caught many brownies and other coarse fish on the chelmer via the fly, we are planning a chelmer session when the river season re-opens after the 15th June, I had a walk along the bank on the east side of Chelmsford, (park in tescos) after the dam, near moulsham mill (look on google maps) and I must say I was very pleasantly surprised at how well suited it will be for fly fishing, plenty of room for big back casts and a real nice river, with all the rain its a bit murky recently, but for sure I'm thinking the 3 ft drop at the dam and the waterfall will oxygenate the water a treat, so there should be [plenty of action, I also hear from other chelmsford residents that the chelmer is full of brown trout, I think it will be for free too as its not run by any fishing club, personally I cant wait for June! your more than welcome to come along as Squirrels has offered to show me all the local hot spots.
