Default Wild Fishers - Brown Trout - Elitism?

I have asked several people to come fishing with me or take up fishing as a hobby (it’s a hobby to me not a sport). When I have explained some things about fishing they have been quite interested until I mention that i FLY FISH most have then turned their noses up as if it’s ‘ELITIST’ I think a lot of this comes from the English Country Manor type with pipe and drae flay on the end of thy rod and marbles in ones mowth.

I have personally never come across Elitism within Wild Trout Fishing circles not in Scotland anyway maybe I have just been lucky who knows (I’ll leave Salmon aside). Now the opposite side of fly fishing 'Commercially Stocked Rainbow Waters' I have come across complete snobbery certainly from groups at the Loch of Menteith. 4x4s, all the most expensive gear they could buy and looking down their noses at others.

Another point is the cost - locally I can fish for £5 a day or less for Brown Trout in Lochs which are a mix of stocked/wild and wild. Within several hundred yards there is a commercial fishery (once one of the best Brown Trout waters locally) which will cost you £30 for a days fishing and more if you take a boat.

With over 31,000 Lochs most of which contain or contained Wild Brown Trout until recent years Wild Brown Trout fishing in Scotland was the norm not for the elite as some claim. Too many in Scotland have blindly followed the Stillwater Commercial Rainbow Trout fishery example of England without thought or need (awaits abuse).

So who is kidding who?

Perhaps the Daff.
Think it's now known as Ardgowan.

The Daff was a classy wild fishery in years gone by.

I fish the Wild places through choice. In my twilight years it is what I do.
I have come through the ranks, served my apprenticeship.
worm, bubble float, spinning then flee. Big fish, big bags, did silly things in my youth, kept too many fish but we learn as we get older. Even dabbled with competition angling in my time. So basically I have seen it all, well most things. Now I do what I want to do & that is fish the wilder places for Brown Trout. My choice, no one else. Nothing elitist about it. I am happy in my self with that.

Is this not another thread carrying on the bickering from 'ear to the ground'. This is turning into a playground boys. I think admin need to take the ball away, since you cant play with it and just argue over it.JB
